Solar Energy Designs
What is solar energy? Solar energy is the utilization of radiant
energy from the sun to produce electricity. Solar energy is a renewable
source of energy and even though we cannot use the power of the sun in
the night or cloudy weather, we can count on it being there the next
day. It is very useful in remote area where there is no utility supplied
power. Electrifying rural areas poses unique challenges for African
governments. Remote and scattered, rural homes, unlike homes in urban
areas, are costly and often impractical to connect to the grid. Having
the blessings of sunlight all year round, the governments are tapping
this free and clean energy source to light up remote and isolated homes
that have no immediate hope of linking to their national electricity
grid.
Solar energy can be used to do the following;
Light houses; by using the latest advances in solar technology, the
renewable energy of the sun can be utilized to provide reliable,
cost-effective and ecologically sound lighting wherever it’s needed –
and can power other small appliances at the same time.
Heating water in houses; the benefits of solar water heating are well
known – energy from the sun costs nothing, and depending on the model
you select, you can receive an average 80% of your hot water
requirements for free.
Pumping of water; solar water pumping are the most practical solution
for your water supply requirements.
Power backup; back up systems provide cost-effective, simple to use
answers to power failures or fluctuations.
The advantages of solar energy are as follows:
- Solar energy; a friend to the environment;
- Solar energy is non-polluting compared to fossil fuels and
silent compared to generators
- Solar Energy does not contribute to global warming, acid rain or
smog.
- By not using any fuel, Solar Energy does not contribute to the
cost and problems of the recovery and transportation of fuel or the
storage of radioactive waste.
- Solar energy is clean, renewable and sustainable unlike gas, oil
and coal thus helping to protect our environment.
- Infinite source of energy; as long as the sun is up there it
produces all the energy that we need
Solar energy: saving you money
- There is very little maintenance required: when the solar panel
have been put in place no fuel or lubricants need to be supplied.
- Low running costs: as the prices of fuel continue to soar, solar
energy remains free after the initial installation costs.
- It will save you money on the electricity bill if you have one;
the savings is immediate and for many years to come.
- In some countries government gives incentives or tax rebates to
those who are using solar energy
- It is easy to install
- Healthy and safety benefits; in some poor countries people use
kerosene for lighting and cooking which has resulted to accidents of
burning of houses and property. Solar energy is safe to use.
- Reliability: solar energy is a reliable source especially in
those countries with sufficient sun light.
- Though expensive to install initially, there is saving in the
long run
- Solar energy works entirely independently, it does not require
any connections or anything, so it can be used effectively and
easily anywhere. Systems can be set up anywhere, in remote locations
as well. So, those locations can rely on solar energy which is
cost-effective for a new site.
Solar energy: maintenance
- Once installed there are no maintenance fees and they lasts for
a long time
- More panels can be added in future as your need grow
- They operate silently, do not release any offensive smells and
does not require on to add fuel.
